Can Your Pet

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Can Your Pet is a pet behavior discovery app that lets you compare your pet’s everyday behaviors with other participating pets.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and what is not collected.

Information We Collect

Can Your Pet may collect and process the following information:

Pet information

App usage information

We may collect limited product interaction data to understand how people use the app, such as:

Pet names are not included in usage analytics.

Anonymous account identifier

The app may create an anonymous cloud account identifier so your app data can be securely associated with your session and synchronized.

You do not need to create a visible account or provide an email address or phone number to use the current version of the app.

Suggest a Quirk

Suggest a Quirk lets you voluntarily submit free-text describing a pet behavior. Your suggestion is private and is associated with your account and pet while it is retained. It may be reviewed for editorial purposes, to identify duplicate or similar behaviors, and to inform future challenge design. It is not automatically made public, published as a Challenge, or shown to other users.

If a canonical Challenge is later created through separate product and editorial review, that Challenge is independent product content. Deleting the original private suggestion or pet does not delete that independently created content.

How We Use Information

We use the information collected to:

Check-ins

Check-in eligibility, an unfinished Check-in session, answers staged before you choose Finish, and the latest behavior comparison are stored locally on your device. This local Check-in history is not uploaded as a separate history record or synchronized across devices.

When you finish a Check-in, your pet’s current challenge responses may be updated and synchronized through the existing challenge-response functionality. A Check-in does not create an additional historical response or a second community-statistics contribution for the same pet and challenge.

Deleting a pet removes its locally stored Check-in state and latest comparison. The de-identified retention described under Community Statistics applies only to the pet’s current challenge-level response contribution, not to Check-in session data, staged answers, before-and-after comparisons, or Check-in completion history.

Information We Do Not Collect

The current version of Can Your Pet does not request or collect:

The current version also does not include user-generated public posts, comments, direct messages, or public social profiles.

Photos

Pet photos are optional.

If you choose an existing pet photo, Apple’s system photo picker lets you explicitly select an image. Can Your Pet receives only the image you select and does not browse your photo library or request broad photo-library read access.

If you choose Take Photo, Can Your Pet requests camera access only for the photo capture you initiate. The camera is not used continuously or in the background.

Before local storage, the selected or captured image is resized and re-encoded for use in the app. Can Your Pet does not intentionally retain the source image’s EXIF or GPS metadata in the locally stored pet-photo copy.

Pet photos are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to Can Your Pet’s cloud service or synchronized through the Can Your Pet backend.

Pet photos are used only for local pet identity and presentation. They are not used for Behavior Style calculations, behavior inference, community statistics, analytics, advertising, or AI analysis.

If you remove a pet photo, the locally stored photo is deleted while the pet profile and behavior data remain.

Sharing

When you create a Share Card, the generated Share Card may include the pet photo stored locally on your device. The Share Card is rendered locally on your device and includes the photo only when you explicitly choose to create, share, or save it.

Can Your Pet does not automatically upload either the source pet photo or the generated Share Card to Can Your Pet’s cloud service.

When you choose Share, iOS presents the system share sheet and you choose the destination. Can Your Pet does not automatically choose or contact a sharing destination.

Save Image for a generated Share Card is separate from selecting an existing pet photo through Apple’s system photo picker. Save Image uses add-only Photos access to save the generated image and does not browse your photo library.

Pet photos and Share Card factual content are not sent to analytics.

The app does not record the destination where you choose to share the card.

Community Statistics

Challenge results may show aggregate community insights based on behavior responses, such as how commonly a behavior is reported, community percentages, and rarity or commonness labels.

When you delete a pet, we may retain individual challenge-level YES / NOPE behavior contributions in de-identified form for these community statistics. These retained records contain only the challenge-level contribution needed for that purpose. They do not contain an account or owner ID, pet ID, pet name, device ID, original response ID, batch or deletion ID, timestamp, or a stable identifier linking multiple responses to the deleted pet. They are not linked to your account or deleted pet in the application data model.

We do not retain the deleted pet’s Style Check profile or Behavior Style result for this purpose.

Pet photos are not part of this de-identified statistical retention. No pet-photo image, filename, thumbnail, photo hash, or photo metadata is retained in these statistical records.

Because these retained statistical records are no longer linked to the deleted pet in our application data model, we cannot later identify which records came from that pet for selective removal.

These community insights describe behavior responses submitted within the app and should not be interpreted as population-wide scientific or veterinary statistics.

Deleting a Pet

When you delete a pet, Can Your Pet permanently removes the pet profile and pet-linked data, including current challenge responses, identifiable Style Check progress and responses, private Suggest a Quirk submissions, and stored app progress and related pet-specific state.

Deleting a pet also removes that pet’s locally stored photo as part of the deletion process. If photo cleanup is interrupted, the app’s deletion-recovery process retries the cleanup while the deleted pet remains unavailable and cannot be restored through synchronization.

Deleting a pet does not delete other account-level data. De-identified challenge-level contributions may remain only as described under Community Statistics.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical safeguards to protect app data and restrict access between users.

No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we aim to collect only the information necessary to operate and improve the app.

Data Retention and Deletion

If you would like to ask about your data, request deletion of data associated with your use of Can Your Pet, or raise a privacy question, please contact us through the support page:

Children

Can Your Pet is intended as a general entertainment and pet behavior discovery app.

The app is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves.

Any updated version will be published on this page with a revised “Last updated” date.
